Vocaroo

Hi there,

today I would like to introduce you to the one application that might be useful in teaching and learning process, the podcast. Podcast is an audio recording which can be done through the internet. By using podcasts, people can share with each other their audio recordings, plus it is easy and free too! There are few podcasts application that you can find in the internet and one of them is Vocaroo.

Vocaroo can be used easily, fast without any cost for about five minutes. We can listen to the recordings we made before saving them. If you do not satisfied with the recording, you can retry recording it! In addition, we can share our recordings to our friends through emails, embedding the recordings in your blogs or even through your social network such as facebook, twitter, tumblr etc!

How can we use Vocaroo in our language classroom?

• Teacher can ask students to use Vocaroo to describe about themselves.
• Besides, teacher can asks students to talk on specific title such as "My Idol", "My Ambition" etc by using podcasts.
• In addition, teacher can ask students questions, in which later they have to answer it using Vocaroo. Teacher, perhaps can set a task which requires students to work in pairs such as by doing interviews, having conversations etc
• These recordings later will be sent to teacher's email for evaluation and feedback

What are the benefits?

• Students may be more motivated to learn as they can do their own recording by themselves. Plus, this may enhance their confidence in speaking too as they can use this to practice their speaking skills
• In addition, this may increase students' interest in learning as the teacher has given them opportunity to speak and they may feel the sense of ownership by doing their own arecordings. Besides, they can share their recordings with each other. Teacher can ask students to evaluate and give feedbacks on each other. Use this to provide peer feedbacks in learning process.
• Teacher cannot evaluate each student's performance during the lesson. Therefore, by doing this, students can send their audio recording works to teacher and later teacher will evaluate and give feedback on their performances. Thus, teacher may have opportunity to evaluate on each student's performance even after school time.
• Teacher, at the same time can use Vocaroo to give feedbacks on students too. This may be useful if teacher do not have enough time to talk and meet with students to discuss on students' performances. 

Vocaroo may limit the recording time to five minutes only. However, five minutes is enough for students to perform their tasks. Instead, students can use Vocaroo for many times as it is free. So, there should be no problem in using Vocaroo for audio recording to perform speaking tasks in the classroom or later at home.
